(COPAA) is currently taking applications for their incredible 3-month advocacy training program SEAT 1.0! See below for more information:Class Schedule: The class is in a hybrid format; students will watch recordings prior to a one hour live session. The live online session is for clarifying questions on the content and interactive activities. Students will select the session (Wednesdays or Sundays) they wish to attend in the registration. Wednesdays - 1pm - 2pm ETOct 9, 16, 23, 30Nov 6, 13, 20 (no class on the 27th for Fall Break)Dec 4, 11, 18Sundays - 5-6 pm ETOct 6, 13, 20, 27, Nov 3, 10, 17, 24Dec 8, 15 (no class on Dec 1 for Fall Break)Topics Covered: Education is a Civil Right, Section 504 & ADA To Advocate For Student Rights, What Makes Special Education Special (review of specially designed instruction, SST, RTI, MTSS, difference between accommodations and modifications), Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), The IEP Process, Tests and Measurements, The IEP Document and Special Education Services, Written Communication in Advocacy, Managing The IEP Conversation, and Issue Spotting and Researching Legal Issues.Class Features: 100% online, each student is assigned a TA for personalized feedback on 2 assignments and to answer clarifying questions on course content, Q&A and interactive activities are offered during class, and the class forum is used for extension activities to engage in course content and interact with peers.
